Hosted by Yeditepe University on 22 April 2026, the Symposium on Custom and Law was the first academic symposium in Turkey to examine the phenomenon of custom from a legal perspective. Organised with the participation of leading academics and legal experts in the field, the event assessed the relationship between the concept of “töre”—which holds a significant place in Turkish history and culture—and the law, examining its historical, social and legal dimensions. The symposium was covered as news by national media organisations, notably TV24, Tvnet and CNN Türk, and attracted widespread public interest.
